Would Planting Cabbage In The Herb Garden Work To Keep Bugs Off?
So im trying to garden the organic way. I read plant herbs with cabbage to keep bugs off. Do you think if I just took the cabbage to my herb garden that would work rather then taken the herbs to the cabbage?
All Purpose Bug Spray
Two tablespoons of liquid hot pepper or cayenne
Few drops of liquid soap
Water
One spray bottle
Add pepper and soap to water bottle. Fill with water. Let stand 24 hours. Shake and spray.
Other bug sprays use canola oil or mineral oil. Instead of hot pepper or cayenne, you can try chopped garlic. When adding chopped garlic, the spray will need to be strained before use to remove the garlic.
Aromatic herbs are offensive to bugs and can effectively deter the little crawling munchers. Many herbs are smelly to bugs. Remember to plant any of your favorite herbs throughout the flower and vegetable garden.
I have been gardening as organic as possible for the last several years. Organic methods do wear off faster but I don’t like commercial bug killers in my soil. I am afraid it will be bad for humans even though people say it is not. So… here are three things we are doing right now
1. Plant marigolds throughout the garden, they seem to help
2. We put regular white baking flower on the brockley, it seems to help the worms
3. This is the hardest to believe but it works… We make a tea out of chewing tobacco and spray it on with a cheap pump sprayer. Basically you just boil a half gallon or so of water and add a fist full of tobacco and let soak for a while then strain and store till you need to spray. I know it sound weird but I have been told by people that chew that the bugs stay away better when they chew. I don’t chew so I don’t know.
My wife or I read all these ideas in other books and have been using them successfully for three years in the eastern part of the country. It might depend on the bugs you have but it is worth a try.
Best of luck!
The old guy is right. Try sevin-5 dust. Don’t worry about the organic part, this will not harm anything except the bugs that want to attack your cabbage. Natural remedies work minimally well and wear off quickly. Sevin-5 dust works and keeps on working to repel insects from your plants and wash it off and it won’t hurt you.
no bug love cabbage too. Try some SEVEN DUST
