What Are Some Natural Cures For Migraines?
i’ve been having really bad migraines to the point where i can’t take care of my three children (3 and under). i still breastfeed so i can’t take too much medicine and tylenol does not work. please let me know what you’ve done to decrease your migraine tension and duration (mine occurs about once a month).
please don’t give me links to sites, nor list of books to buy and read. sorry, i don’t mean to sound rude but i want to know what worked for you and your loved ones, naturally. thank you.
Have you tried seeing a chiropractor?
Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic deals with more than just “neck and back pain.” Chiropractic is founded in the belief that the Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function. A misalignment of the vertebrae (what chiropractic calls a subluxation) can pinch the nerves running out between them, causing pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction in that nerve’s corresponding body part. I used to work in a chiropractic office and saw how it helped many people with chronic migraine headaches and sinus headaches. This might be a more suitable solution to your problem since you are breastfeeding and, as the mother of young children, always on the go.
Chiropractic is safe, non-invasive, won’t take up too much of your time (except for the first appointment which will include an examine and x-rays) and won’t have an impact on your breast milk.
If you do decide to see a chiropractor, it would be in your best interest to ask family and friends for recommendations, visit a few offices and pick the doctor that you are most comfortable with. No matter what you decide to do, I sincerely hope that things improve for you.
Will it away. It sounds crazy, but as soon as my vision starts to go, I try and will it away. Instead of going “Oh sh*t I’m getting a migraine, I just try and act like everything is fine and that there is no migraine and there is not going to be a migraine. It never completely gets rid of it, but it does lessen the severity of it extremely. You be surprised at the power of the human mind. Sounds crazy, but you should try it. It’s natural and it’s free.
the clue here may be once a month,i.e. hormonal, see a regular specialist to check your hormone levels, as well as no bright lights, lots of fluid, less stress, follow migraine diet restrictions, hormones are natural substances ,your specialist will listen to your concerns about breastfeeding.
I get them too. Make sure you are getting enough magnesium, that has helped me, (shortened the duration and intensity) Ice packs when they first start. This one may sound weird, but breathe in pure horseradish! Also, feverfew is an herb that helps.
Dark room and a cold pack on the back of your neck with your head tilted forward.
You could also try the pressure point on your hand. It has worked for me a few times.
Hold your left hand out in front of you with your thumb and index finger making a backwards “C” shape.
Now in the middle of your two nuckles get your other hand and pinch you skin together (i.e. your right hand thumb on the outside where you can see it and you right hand index finger on the inside of your hand).
Hold it tight and in a few minutes you should start to feel a little relief.
I know it sounds stupid and I hope I have explained it properly because it has worked for me.
Good luck and if all else fails give you kids a hug.
i get migranes when i dont sleep enough. maybe thats ur problem as well…sleep as long as u can.
Do not get dehydrated, drink plenty of water all day. Take riboflavin, high-dose, about 200 mg at a time. Avoid chocolate.
hope that helps!
Try a migraine diet. It worked for my son. I don’t remember everything, but your doctor can give you a complete list of foods to avoid. What I remember is avoid or eliminate processed meats (bacon, cured meats and hard salami, etc.) and alcohol (red wine) or any other foods and beverages that contain nitrates, all caffine (including chocolate) and aged cheeses.
When experiencing migraines complete darkness, quiet, and a cold towel over the eyes and sleeping it off helped his symptoms, including the nausea. This usually took a couple of hours.
With 3 babies I know this may not be an option, but hopefully someone can tend to them and give you the necessary down time you need during a migraine.
See your doctor! Migraines are serious business and a thorough check up is important.
Forget all tablets to begin with as some of the painkillers can in some people make the migraine and headache worse like those containing codeine and caffeine. You have to find out what courses your migraine. The lack of water is one example. Lack of sleep another. The way of living can trig the migraine et cetera. Some food do trig migraine in some people. Forget about TV and such things, and relax and take it easy until you have found out what is wrong in your lifestyle. In a Neurology book you can find some answers to your problems, it goes to far to answer your question here.

I know that certain foods trigger my migranes, yellow cheese, sulphites (wine, lunchmeat, hotdogs). The migrane diet is a good place to start. I know for me, one hit of weed takes my migranes away IMMEDIATELY, where all other prescription meds have failed.
OK, I’ll tell you a solution:
Go for a manual one-time treatment called Atlasprofilax. The effect on the self-healing power of the body is simply amazing – own experience and that of many friends, also with severe migraines.
And it’s really worth travelling far – at present, the treatment is available in California and Europe only, costing about 200 Dollars. Good luck!

Cool dark quiet room
Soft playing music
Bubble bath/warm shower
Low lights, low noise levels.I know that may be hard with small children-so maybe quiet games will do,reading books, etc. Rest when they do,try to get help from family and friends-even if it’s for an hour.Basically, everything around you needs to be toned down.I hope you feel better! (oops….didn’t mean to be so loud.)
(whispering) I hope you feel better.
coffee helps open up bloodstreams

Sorry to hear you’re having migraines! A couple of my friends have suffered from migraines, too. Dietary modifications seem to help prevent the symptoms, although not completely. Foods to consider avoiding include: lunchmeat, apples, smelly cheese, and alcohol.
For one, DONT SMOKE, cut out caffine drinks outa your diet. Also, some headaches are caused by aggitation of uptake receptors in your brain. If this is what is causing your headachs, a towel soaked in white vinager applyed to the scalp and head for about 30 min, should cure it compleatly. Its worth a shot anyway if nothing else works. My Anatomy teacher recomended it……
well i am musically inclined and for several times when experiencing migraines, it can be lessened by really listening to Bach’s piano pieces… It suits the mind and thu cures the pain:) hope it works for you!
Hi! I agree with the food list to stay away from, and I would like to add that putting a little Lavender essential oil on your temples does wonders for migraines. A cold cloth across the back of your neck also helps.
Once you are not breast feeding anymore, Feverfew is a specific herb for migraines – I give it to my boys (6 and 9) for head problems, and it works within 5 minutes. I am at windstarhealing.com if you have any questions. Good luck!
