Are Nurses Too Controlled By Medical Professionals, Ie Doctors?

By wholenurse, September 30, 2009

I am required to do a debate at uni regarding the control of health care by the medical profession.
My argument is that nurses are not too controlled by doctors/medical professionals because;
*The introduction & growth of nurse practitioners.
* Holistic nursing approach- focusing on the ‘whole’ person rather than just the problem & using different methods of care/treatment (Not always involving a doctor/medical professional)
*Independant midwives practicing solo or in collabrative care with doctors.
What are your views on my arguments??? Do they make a good argument or is there other points that I could use?
Thanks

What Can We As A Community Do To Increase Doctor’s Use Of Natural Cures?

By wholenurse, July 15, 2009

The more I look into natural cures the more I see their usefulness. Obviously the drug industry is of significant value, however there is one huge hole in the system: drug companies will never spend their billions on natural cures because they can’t be patented.
If drug companies don’t spend their money on the research then who does? Its up to the universities and government agencies to do so. They don’t have the funds to do many studies and the studies they do are small and considered preliminary at best.
Without the research, doctors will never prescribe or recommend the treatment for fear of a malpractice lawsuit. Their malpractice insurance companies will not cover them for providing controversial treatment.
So we come back to doctors only being able to fill our bodies with alien chemicals that do one thing, but cause other parts of our bodies not to function correctly.
I think this is a serious problem as many needs can be addressed with nutrition and diet.
