Well, you hear milk thistle alot but its more of a “hepatoprotectant” — which means it “protects” the cells of the liver from damage. Actually, it protects the cells of the kidneys from damage too.
When you’re having liver complaints though, you not only want to protect the cells, you want to help them get rid of all the bodily toxins and junk that they’ve not been able to get rid of (the liver can retain old hormones for up to a year!). So, drinking tea or decoctions (a stronger kind of tea where you simmer the herbs for 20 minutes instead of just pouring water on them, you do this with the root part of herbs) with herbs such as burdock root or dandelion root are especially good.
